Stained Glass Art

Picture

What is Stained Glass?

Stained glass is a term used to talk about colored glass as a material as well as the artworks that are created with the glass.  Traditionally, stained glass is made into windows consisting of flat panels of the colored glass, but more modernly, stained glass is being made into 3-D structures and sculptures, as we'll see down further!

How is Stained Glass Made?

Stain glass is colored using metallic salts.  The colored glass is then arranged into patterns or pictures and held together by strips of lead.  As you could imagine, these artworks can get heavy!  The images are supported by rigid frames.
Stain glass can also be made by painting on glass and fusing it together in a kiln.

How Will We Be Creating and Using Stained Glass?

Picture
As you will see on the Creating Your 3D Print page later in the lesson, we will be printing a thin transparent panel.

I would like for your group to select one or two members to combine all of your color schemes and designs, created from your sun salutations, into one piece.  Each member can give input and present ideas for the new design!
While these members are designing the new artwork, I would like the rest of the group to continue on to the Creating Your 3D Print page, so we can get our panel printing!

Once your panel is printed and your design is complete, you can begin to transfer your ideas onto your panel!  You can always refer back to this page to help you while transferring your design.
